COREL PAINTER STUDENT PRICE UPDATE

It would take a few years for a CC subscription to be more expensive than buying Photoshop + every update used to be. I'm not sure why you think it's extortion. Ultimately it's going to come down to whatever feels right to you, but people tend to look at the oil brush and then miss the other options in ArtRage, so if you like the feel but need specific features, please ask and we'll happily tell you whether they exist or not. If you don't care about natural media effects, then ArtRage can still do 'digital' stuff, but it's not the main point of the software, so shrugs it comes down to whether you like working in it or not, or reaaaally want a specific feature.

COREL PAINTER STUDENT PRICE UPGRADE

If you've got an older version sitting around anywhere, you can upgrade at 50% off (or 30% from Lite). It's also SUPER stable I'm not promising no bugs, but I am promising that if you find one, we'll want to know about it so we can try and fix it before the next update.

COREL PAINTER STUDENT PRICE SOFTWARE

If you want natural media-ish sketching and painting, then our software is a fraction of the price of Corel Painter, doesn't require a subscription, and will work for many years (people still use AR2 without problems and that came out in 2006!). The script feature is also very handy for replaying paintings to create much larger versions. You can't do advanced photo editing (that's not the point), but it does have some standard filters (kill white/any colour, blur, noise, layer color, etc) and you can load custom ones and it's fully compatible with PSD files.

Also it has the most beautiful sketching pencil options. The color sampler and fill tool are also massively improved and give you more options than almost any other program around now (slow motion fill! fill without gaps at the edges! ignore gaps! along with Photoshop-equivalent stuff like pattern and gradient fill, of course). If you're after more advanced features, that's definitely the edition you'd want, it has more Photoshop-user-friendly stuff like custom brushes and a docking mode interface - totally different from the default one - and a dark mode option, as well as new perspective tools, guidelines, liquify (warp) and all the original ArtRage stuff. I'm totally biased of course (I work for ArtRage) but it sounds like none of the people here have tried the latest version so I wanted to mention a few things (it's frustrating when people are going 'if only it did X' and I'm going 'BUT IT DOES' ) )ĪrtRage 5 just came out and has a non expiring demo here: - go ahead and try it along with any other software that interests you. But if anyone can come close, it's Corel Painter. If you're used to Photoshop, they will all lack depth. Every other software focus on their own little niche, like simulating traditional media or line art, because they just can't compete otherwise. Photoshop is top dog for a reason, though. Has a very interesting brush engine that blends colors very smoothly. No longer updated I think, but it's surprisingly fun and powerful for such a lightweight program. Simulates watercolors in a pretty cool way that really looks authentic. Great for sketching and doing lines but, like the last two, it lacks depth in both settings and color tools. Everything from the layout to the way the brushes behave makes it a pain in the ass to use. It's used by many comic artists to do lines before heading into photoshop for colors. It lacks depth when it comes to brush settings and color corrections, but if you're into line art this is probably the best choice. And it obviously lacks the powerful color correction tools that PS has.

The biggest con is that the program is pretty clunky and unstable if you're used to PS. It also allows you to calibrate your pen pressure to fit your preference.

If you have the patience to go through all the settings for brushes and papers, you can get pretty much any look you want. By far the most advanced and versatile brush engine of them all, Photoshop included.
